femme filth fest was founded in 2024 by filmmaker & programmer abby wright.

Abby founded Femme Filth Fest as a way to embrace alternative, underground female filmmakers whose work may not be celebrated elsewhere due to its graphic nature or subject matter.

The mission of Femme Filth Fest is to uplift, platform, and unify alternative, transgressive, or underground independent female filmmakers.

Femme Filth Fest is driven by a commitment to showcasing bold, unfiltered stories that challenge conventions, celebrate taboo, and embrace artistic risks. By creating a space for films often overlooked by traditional festivals, FFF provides a vital platform for women who want to explore the uncomfortable, the subversive, and the provocative. The desired impact is to foster a creative ecosystem where female filmmakers feel seen, heard, and celebrated, and where audiences leave inspired, challenged, and with a broader perspective on what women’s stories can be.

Femme Filth Fest was specifically founded to champion the voices of female, trans, and non-binary filmmakers, specifically QTBIPOC filmmakers. FFF only programs films where at least one woman was on a primary role in the crew, although the festival always prioritizes having multiple women on the crew and/or having a woman director. Including and uplifting marginalized groups has been a programmatic interest of the festival from the very beginning stages, and will continue to be.

Femme Filth Fest is fiscally sponsored by 501(c)(3) organization The Field.
